I have been smimming, fishing, boating, etc.... on a lake in SW GA for over 35 years (I am gettin oOOOLD!!) and have only seen a gator about 3 or 4 times. Once I was skiing so that kinda made me wobble for a second - LOL We have actually had them swim by the end of the pier, and one of them was hanging out at the beginning of the pier (going up and down in the water) waiting for our dog. That is the spot where she would jump in and get water. Don't quite know what happened, but that gator up and died in that very spot - must of had a heart condition or something?

You or your dog must have killed it.....LOL....how would you feel, if a nice looking, smelling....scrumptious "roast" keeps on waltzing up and down in front of your nose, and you are chasing it ????
The gator must have died of pure and extreme exhaustion.......ROTFL!
I hope, after it was dead, you've got a nice looking purse, or shoes out of it ???
That's it! Pure and simple exhaustion!!! I knew there must have been something! Naw, no purse or belt, it just died and floated away, I think! Maybe it was really old?
Too Cute! However, I think THAT one is a different type of gator?
