Hello,
My name is Paul Welch and I am the Auburn University chapter president of Youth for Western Civilization. I heard about the Mosques plan of expansion, and the Auburn chapter would like to aid in the protest. I am proud that the inhabitants of Lilburn have united to defend their way of life, against a force that opposes much of what their community stands for. Lilburn should be commended for their strong unity in defense of what threatens their culture and values.
Anyways, if anyone could get me in touch with someone who is leading the resistance against the Mosque expansion, or inform me of future protests, I would truly appreciate it. Our chapter would love to come voice our opposition to the Mosques expansion. Please email me at

I live 2-3 miles away, and I have also been keeping up with this issue. The issue was entirely about zoning and land use. There is a very large, vibrant, and active Asian community in Lilburn, and much of Gwinnett County. This current mosque allows that community to worship in the manner that they choose. The planned expansion would encroach on land that is residential, and would cause traffic and noise issues. I don't think that there is an issue of it's presence encroaching on anyone's culture or values. Also, the planning and subsequent city commission voted not to issue them a permit, because of this reasons that I listed. If however, they were denied that because of the reasons you listed, that would indeed threaten their and my cultures and values. There is nothing more "Western" than a democracy in action, free of religious persecution.

The issue was over land zoning. Their planned mosque actually looked really nice and well put together and I would love to see it built in another location. They have been apart of our community for awhile now and I see no reason why they shouldn't be apart of it.
