heh gainesville was priding itself on how well they have done. they used to drive around and chase people out of parking lots. that was the extent of their anti gang task force. it got so bad people gave shopping and just hit mall of ga.

oakwood got destroyed with all the development around route 53. before they always had robberies at the food joints around exit 16 but now the whole place is one big strip mall. there are a few subs holding out on the north side of mcever but everything south has just become commercial or wanting to be. and some low income rentals around there.

i think even the ducks at the college pond left.

If someone would buy my darn house, I would be out of here too!

By the way, they cleaned up the gang tags from in front of Moe's but the old sonic building still remains a monument to various gangs. NOTHING has been cleaned up. Gangs, YOU WIN.

Thank you so much for your input, I think we'll stay in NE Cobb for now. Seems like Gainesville would be a very unwise move untill the economy picks up. The gang situation sounds troubling.

Gainesville would be a very unwise move, even after the economy picks up, IMO. Just warning you...

The gang situation in Gainesville was there long before the economic decline. The son of a friend of mine who attends Gainesville High was recently threatened for wearing a freakin' tan polo shirt, because that is apparently the "uniform" for some gang. I hear horror stories like this from my co-workers all the time. I may work in Gainesville, but I would not choose to live there.

Thanks again. The airport commute complicates things too, that and the fact we'd lose about $100k if we tried to sell our house now. I think I'll leave my DH to enjoy the wonders of Gainesville on his daily commute.

gainesvilletimes.com - Second teen charged in killing

Three teenage members of the SUR-13 gang just killed a 68 year old man here in Gainesville.

I sure hope my house sells fast because we are outta here in May!

Out of the frying pan and into the fire... back to Florida. I grew up there (since 1974) and my whole family is still there. They have quite a bit of land, so we can escape to their little island when we need to.
