Need advice for fun things to do with our 5 and 10 year old kids for a week. We're staying on Blue Ridge Lake but we are willing to take day trips. We don't want to go to Atlanta. Any advice is much appreciated!

Ride the scenic railroad to Copperhill/McCaysville - kids like that usually - nice trip along the river most of the way and back. The trip gives you an hour and a half in town. My wife and I just rode it and had a good time. Be sure and check out the historic New York Restaurant in Copperhill to eat when you are in town. They are revamping it and the food was great when we ate there.

Also, whitewater rafting on the Ocoee is fun if the kids are big enough - or float the Toccoa to McCaysville if you prefer a more sedate ride. Also there is a museum in Ducktown, TN (just north of Copperhill) that is educational and gives alot of history into the area's mining past. It's pretty good for kids too.

Also over off the Taccoa is fish hatchery, with huge trout. You can fish rock creek, coopers creek, or the Taccoa.

You're also not far from Amicalola Falls
