Where is the best place to tent camp in North Georgia? I want to take my son camping. I would prefer quiet, near slow moving water, in the mountains, trails nearby...not all necessary, just trying to give an idea. Up to an hour from a town/civilization would be just fine...Any suggestions welcome!

I'm not sure what you're looking for,are you looking for a desolate place for you and your son or maybe a campsite with walk-in sites?Do you want a place where you can shower in the morning and have running water and electricity or your campsite?

I have stayed at Trackrock campgrounds in Blairsville Georgia and found it to be very nice and charming,it's family owned.I'm not sure if we can post links or not but the site is trackrock .com.

Upper Chattachoochee River campground. It's a US Forest Service campground about 15-20 minutes north of Helen. Hiking trails lead into the campground. The campground is located about 5 miles down a gravel road (so is secluded), yet has drinking water and vault toilets. Also, the campground is located on the headwaters of the Chattahoochee.

I would like something quiet, but not necessarily desolate. I would be nice to have showers and toilets accessible. I guess something where you don't feel like sardines packed in and you aren't worried about the bothering or being bothered by your neighbors.

Thanks everyone for the links! I will be checking them all out.

I guess ill bring this one back to life. Im new to GA and would love to find a non campsite style camping. We would like to find areas that have small creek or river, dirt/gravel road to get to it, away from civilization. We want to be able to let the kiddos shoot the bb guns and us adults play with a few of the bigger guns. In Washington state, we had hundreds of miles of US forestry service roads and we were able to get deep into the mountains and forests and find camping spots. What does Georgia have for us??
