Just for clarification -- I assume NewJW means Eastside Athens (about 5-7 miles away (Barnett Shoals / Cedar Shoals / Whit Davis), and has subdivisions that probably filled with transplants. Not East Athens, about 1 mile away from downtown which is not a very popular area, and does not have a lot of subdivisions.

NewJW, if you see this, may be you can clarify.

I meant eastside athens. Newer Subdivision off Whit Davis Road five minutes from the Castle Park and Walmart, Close to Cedar Shoals, Whit Davis/Barnett Shoals /etc. Sorry if I said the wrong term in referring the eastside of athens as oppose to East Athens. I was a transplant. I do know what area you are referring to that is not so nice closer to the downtown. I would not recommend that vicinity.

NewJW, We used to live 5 minutes from there too! I think Castle Park in your lingo, was "Brown park" in our family lingo, due to all the wooden play sets in that park. (I am guessing you are talking about the park on Whit Davis, several meters from Walmart). "Green park" in our family lingo was the park right across Walmart on Lexington Rd (Southeast Clark Park).

It was a nice area, and nice town. We certainly enjoyed our stay in that town.

On Whit Davis there is one park, Southeast Clarke Park which includes Children's World of Wonder designed for younger kids, a dog park, Wriggly Field, where you can take your canines and run them off leash, and a large open space for walking. The rest of Southeast Clarke Park is on Lexington Road that has a walking track, ball field, etc.
