I had posted a question about a neighborhood in Athens which was viewed 35 times without a reply...The question in case anyone reading this would care to respond is if you could tell me anything about Fox Ridge..in Athens. It would be much appreciated, thanks.

I live in Athens, but I just moved here from Chicago so I am not sure how much help I'll be. I was apartment hunting in that area Riverwoods apartments is right near there. It seemed decent but there was a run down kind of iffy area about a half mile west. Also my brother [Chicago PD] talked to Athens PD who said the area is ok but they do get some calls in that area. I recall that when I went to see the apartments there they reported they were vandalized a week or so ago and some windows were broken.

Actually the development I'm talking about are condominiums, and guessing not a major source of 911 calls. Here's the link:

Athens

I was just wondering if they were adjacent to a housing project or landfill, because the price seemed reasonable.

it would not be my first choice. they are quite old and usually around here it means low income renters by and large and etc. just like anywhere else. that part of town is unimpressive to me. but you have to understand that athens has pockets of tough spots including way too much public housing for the size of the city. we have a LOT of low income people and the crime to go along with it. the ONLY thing that saves the situation is 34,000 students that flood the place with money, energy and provide enough easy targets for our criminal element.

but no, i would not live there despite the price. i think your best bet is to look around at apartments where students congregate; rent there, and spend time looking around on your own once you are on the ground.

don't get me wrong, Athens is a decent place to live, but I often feel that some posters here are over the top and ignore some of the darker sides of our area.

just my 2 cents.

btw, no, the landfill is out of town nicely. and there are no "projects" where you are talking about though the facility itself might qualify as one knowing this area. again, there are a LOT of spots dotting the city/county (combined government) that are "projects". obviously realtors are not going to steer you else they lose their licenses and maybe even get sued.

you need feet on the ground to see for yourself.

i am thinking about moving to athens ga and just because they are low-income people do not mean they start trouble. everyone isn't the same. i am a low income person but i do not cause trouble or want it around my kids.

Foxridge is in a mixed area of apartments, town-homes and condos. It is on a bus-line that has somewhat limited service hours. Financing is hard to find for condos in Athens because of the current FHA rules. Even for non-FHA loans most banks and lenders have similar guidelines for loans. A big reason for this is the ratio of rental units to owner occupied units here in Athens.
