New job in Valdosta. Are either of these areas good for raising a family and providing good schools? Lake Park, GA or Hahira, GA?

lake park has more amenities; hahira offers a more close-knit family environment.

there is a large project about to get started just off the interstate in hahira that should bring more amenities to the city; specifically a full grocery store.

Hahira Gateway Development, Hahira, GA 31632 - ERA Joyner Realty <<< link to the project homepage

Hahira is pretty small, however it is only about 10 minutes from Valdosta (41, Val Del, & I-75)
Lake Park is slightly further (20+/- minutes), and has chain stores like Winn Dixie, GAP, and fast food.
Most people commute to the Valdosta area for school/work like you would be doing. Driving 20+/- minutes daily would get annoying to me, but plenty of people do it.

Your kids will attend Lowndes High School regardless of which location you choose. I don't know how elementary schools compare. I do prefer Hahira Middle School over Lowndes Middle School though.
If your kids will ride the bus, take the commute into consideration also. They will have sit on the bus for a longer period of time/wake up earlier.

Both are fine places to raise kids if you don't want to live in Valdosta, but I would choose Hahira.
Lake Park feels different to me. I can't put my finger on it though.

Oh, and when I was growing up, I had friends in both places.....we never went to Lake Park. The Lake Park friends always had to come to Valdosta or Hahira. That is very specific to our group though, because there were more friends in Hahira/Valdosta, so it made less sense for all of us to drive to LP.

Do you have any suggestions for the best places to purchase furniture, mattresses, washer, dryer, etc.?
