We're considering moving to Pine Lake this summer.

I've read a few threads, and while the info was helpful and people kind, I still have three major questions:

How is the school system?

What's the traffic like to get to the grocery, library etc?

Are stores and entertainment within walking distance?

Crime seems to be controlled ..

Thank you for any help you can give. This seems like a charming community.

Default Pine Lake answers

To answer your questions...
1) How is the school system?

Frankly, not good. A number of parents here either homeschool
or get their kids into a different district or private school. It's a cause
for concern for us. There is some interest in starting a school here.

2) What's the traffic like to get to the grocery, library etc?

Not too bad for groceries. There are two stores fairly close.
There is no library real close, so you might as well go on into
Decatur. N. Decatur/Rockbridge Rd get pretty busy during morning and
evening commutes since it's only a two lane road with stop lights.

3) Are stores and entertainment within walking distance?

Entertainment, not really. A couple struggling restaurants.
It's about a half mile walk to the nearest grocery store from the
closest corner of PL.

thank you for the thorough answers. You seem very knowledgable about the area. Is there another eclectic, walkable community we could look at within an hours drive Norcross? We are thinking of moving from Cincinnati and don't know Ga. At all. Thank you so much for your time.

First of all, you probably should post this in the Atlanta room, as these places are part of the metro and you will get many more responses there.

Norcross covers a lot of area, but yes - their small Downtown is very walkable and quite charming. It's a mixed bag though - parts of Norcross are heavily working class Latino, while parts are suburban upper-class Americana.

Picture a metropolitan area a little more than twice the size of Cincinnati, and you have Atlanta - warts, jewels and all.

Decatur might be an option for you. Certainly, it's a larger town, but that has the benefits
of more options. We actually do a lot in Decatur for dining, library, and other activities since
they are lacking in and around Pine Lake. And getting to Norcross is no difficult.
