Are any Valdosta area schools hiring teachers? Looking for any town within 30 miles or so from Valdosta, elementary or high school. Preferred subjects to teach are the sciences. Thanks for any info, much appreciated!

What grades/ages are you looking for? I would guess Middle or High since you mention Science... I have a few teacher friends who have gotten hired on with Head Start locally, but this is with 3-5 year olds. They say the best way to get hired at a "school" seems to be by knowing someone (typical Valdosta) or volunteering a lot or substituting for a couple of years, but again they are pk-5th teachers.

Georgia is cutting the budget on schools and teaching so it's not the best state to be looking for a job as a teacher.

"They" is an idiot, and I wouldn't repeat too much of what I hear from "they" for fear of being labeled the same.

Looking for elementary through middle school, maybe high school as well. I understand that Lowndes County is furloughing and eliminating some postitions; wondered if openings occur elsewhere - thanks for the response. Substituting at first would be fine.

Anyone know about hiring issues in Hahira, Thomasville, Lake Park, other nearby places?

hahira & lake park are part of the lowndes system; thomasville is in the same boat as every other school system.

There is a projection of 10,000 education jobs being eliminated in GA by August. What is your certification?

I'm not the one looking - a friend in a different part of the country is interested in moving near me... I don't know the certification. But he loves teaching the sciences, especially to elementary grades. Do you know if the 10k includes university positions?

Universities are also in dreadful shape. The 10K is k-12 as I understand it.

This is a tough time to be searching for an education job of any kind in GA.

In GA, there aren't many elementary schools that have dedicated science teachers. If he is a certified 6-12th grade science teacher he might find some opportunity.
