Hello,
I'm relocating from the northeast and would like to live around downtown (originally from Philly and New York City) so I don't feel too large of a culture shock. I'm looking at a bunch of downtown rentals, in particular the Bicycle Factory (201 Front St) and the Globe apartments. Anyone know anything about the apartments and the area around it? I'm in my late 20's (female) and a business professional. I want to avoid any "frat-like" college places like the Boardwalk condos. Any suggestions would be VERY appreciated!!! THANK YOU!!!

Some of this would probably depend on your price-point. That being said, I was pretty certain the Globe apartments were income-based. That might have changed recently but I looked into living there once and you pretty much had to be poor or a student. The Bicycle Factory is newer and I've never been in there, but that side of the river doesn't have much to be honest. Like.. anything at all really. If want to be able to walk anywhere that probably won't be the best choice.

Personally I don't think Boardwalk is that bad and I know plenty of people ~30 that live there. Most people in college can't afford the $800/mo rent anyway.

A couple other places to check out. LooseLeaf apartments (Loose Leaf Lofts - Grand Rapids, MI),

Plaza Tower (Plaza Towers) is a hotel that has been converted, it has a pool, restraunt, sports deck, etc etc. It has the best location, but parking is limited.

38 Commerce is new and I think it just opened (38 | Downtown Grand Rapids | Apartments | Condominiums | Office | Restaurant | Retail | LEED Certified | Thirty-Eight).

The Gallery On Fulton is opening shortly, if not this instant (Home :: The Gallery)

These places are all centrally located and roughly the same price range.

And if you're going to GR from NYC, you probably have some reverse-culture shock

Bicycle Factory is kind of in an iffy area. You might want to check out Icon on Bond.
