Hi - I am in Grand Rapids for a few months and am looking for a gym to use. Since my stay in the city is only temporary, I am not interested in signing a year-long contract or anything like that (maybe three months at the most). I live in the Aquinas-Cornerstone area of town and am hopeful of finding a place not too far away. I am looking to pay as little as possible as long as it is a somewhat-decent place.

Thanks for any help.

this is what you do---

find the gym the farthest distance from you, at least 5 miles.

Walk there and back every night.

Don't pay the fee, you got it free!

sorry, I'm in a silly mood tonight!

Snap Fitness is at the East Beltline and 28th street. I think I only paid like $30/mo or so and the signup fee was waived because I was a student. I think it might be $50 or so otherwise. You only need a 30 day notice to cancel.

They are open 24 hours, and its a very small facility but it has just about everything someone needs. Its clean, new equipment etc. It gets a little busy right around 5:00pm for the after work crowd but it usually thins out by 6-6:30.

lol - thanks for the insight.

Seriously though, I already run/walk regularly and am looking to cross-train and get into better shape overall, not just my legs!

Thanks. That place looks promising - I'll have to research it more completely.

Just to follow up on Snap Fitness ... from researching it online, it looks like a really cool place and pretty much fits exactly what I am looking for. The 24-7 aspect of it is also a big plus as my awake hours can be all over the place, and it would be nice to know I could go work out at 3 a.m. if I wanted to.

Their memberships are $49 to enroll (online, apparently $149 if you do so in person) and $34.95 per month. So, even if I were to go there for just two months, it still comes out to a total average of $59.45 per month, which is not too bad. Another thumbs up to the fact that they are so upfront on their website about their costs - in my experience, it sometimes can be near impossible to find out the rates without a phone call and/or personal visit.
