Yeah I know, "finding a job in Michigan...might as well move..." blah blah blah, well that's not a choice. Any who, I am trying to help my fiance find a job, Holland/ Grand Rapids area. Here's the down side she has only worked three or four years at a library, and about the same time at Meijers. So how do I find a job for some one with a weak resume. I had her go to almost all the Gentex job fairs she's been going to Michigan Works, and nothing. Any suggestions or any one that knows some one who owes some one a favor that could help us out. We are getting married in a couple of months and it would make things easier financially with two steady incomes.

If finding a factory-style job is a desire, I would recommend getting connected with Manpower or Kelly Temp services. Either of those can be helpful for building a weak resume. Gentex isn't the only place hiring either. If I were your fiance, I'd be applying to places like Magna Donnely, Haworth, Herman Miller, Johnson Controls, etc (Holland-biased, but that is what I know). A lot of places have you apply online these days, which makes things very impersonal. I would recommend making a point of following up any online submittal with a phone call within a week to the company's HR head. An online application probably shows up as one email in a sea of other distractions... Good luck to your fiance!

What type of job is she looking for? I know an HR Mgr in GR and they are hiring someone in production (paper mill). If that's of interest, I can definitely hook you up.
