I grew up in Grand Haven and really loved it there. You've pretty much listed all the pros/cons of it already, but one more thing to consider is the Coastguard Festival that happens every summer. It's a pretty big deal for such a small town--hundreds of thousands of people come in and they completely close the downtown to set up an outdoor carnival. The primary event is the fireworks show that closes the festival--it's one of the biggest in the state, and certainly the best I've ever seen. It's great fun--however, it means that the town is absolutely overrun with people for a few days, and it can be a bit overwhelming if you don't like crowds (especially if you're living near the downtown area, as there will constantly be people parking on the street all around downtown, and tons of people walking all over the place).

Ok Holland is pretty good. West Ottawa is probably pretty iffy. The problem isnt the teachers or staff its the kids that attend. First they themselves are iffy in Character( not saying that all the kids are horrible but some are). If u r concerned abt safety W.O isnt for some drugs and Alcohol have been found and some other stuff so i wouldnt suggest it.If you live in that district do SOC to Zeeland probably better yet than Holland. Anyway Holand,GH and Sagautuck are pretty nice. Zeeland is by the way what u pass through coming off the Highway not much too see though.
