I just took a job in Holland and need a place to live. Ideally I'd like something close to downtown but haven't had any luck looking there. My budget is $800 or less/month. Any tips? Will I just be better off looking further outside of the city? And if so what would you recommend? Thanks for any help.

You can rent an three -bedroom entire house for about $800-$900 per month in Holland, plus utilities.

Looks on CraigsList. there are lots of houses and apartments for rent. In general, (and I'm going to get in trouble here...) stay south of 18th street for the "nicer neighborhoods. Also, the area bound by Lincoln Avenue on the east, 16th street on the north, River avenue on the west and 20th street on the south is a bit rough lately. East and west 20th through east and west 32nd are very nice areas.

Stay right in town. Living on the north side will just cost you money in gas and time.
