I live in the Alger Heights area, off of Eastern, and I work in Rockford/ Belmont 10mile & 131 area. Is there an easier some what less congested way to get between the two. I really don't like dealing with the traffic and the rubber neckers on 131. Any alternatives would be great

Have you tried going down East Beltline. Although I can't imagine the traffic would be much better on that road either.

There aren't any better alternatives. Ultimately, you have to get across the Grand River. That can be done (from north to south) on Jupiter Ave., North Park St., Ann St., Leonard St., or one of the few bridges in the downtown area. To utilize one of these bridges would involve talking Grand Rapids surface streets, such as Division Ave., Eastern Ave., Fuller Ave., Alpine Ave., Plainfield Ave. Obviously, on all of these routes you would encounter a lot of traffic, a lot of stop and go driving, many stop lights and stop signs, etc.

Nope, unfortunately. There are very few commutes in Grand Rapids that are bad, but that is one of them. I used to live way out near Hudsonville and had to commute to the airport area, which is also long and painful.

The East Beltline I would say is probably just as bad if not worse, particularly from I-196/I-96 junction up to 3 Mile, and then again when it merges with Plainfield Ave and becomes Northland Drive over the river. Huge backups for miles at "rush" hour.

Can you change your work hours like 7-4 instead of 8-5?

It's office hours, but usually I get done with my work early and get out 5-10 minutes early and that sometimes helps
