I'm thinking of dumping cable tv and go mostly over-the-air with a dose of Netflix once in a while as my tv viewing (including sports) is very limited. While I'm aware of sites like antennaweb and tvfool, I would like to know people's TV reception experience in pulling down channels, VHF and UHF alike, high def or otherwise, using outdoor antenna systems in the Grand Rapids metro area. Has your experience been satisfactory overall and are there any 'getcha's' to watch for?

If you have an outdoor antenna and a way to pick up digital signals (either a converter box or a TV that is new enough to have a built-in digital tuner) you should be able to get quite a few channels. I live 50 miles from Grand Rapids and I can get Fox 17 with an indoor rabbit ear antenna.

The only thing that I hate about over the air TV in Grand Rapids is that there is no CBS station. You are expected to watch channel 3 out of Battle Creek. It can be very difficult to get that channel with an antenna.
