Moving to GR for work come November. Looking at a rental for the first year or so.

Been looking online at a few places that border the two neighborhoods. Fulton/Lane/Veto area. Good/Bad/Ugly?

Thanks!
Jon

Pretty fine for the most part. A fairly sleepy part of town that seems pretty mixed. A friend of mine bought a place over there after he got married. It's very middle class, some blue collar, some young families.

Not bad, but closer to John Ball Park is slightly better. Those homes are older at this point, and some of them are very well-kept, while others have been let go a bit over the years even though they still have 'good bones'.

I would stay North of Fulton. Some of those neighborhoods bordering Butterworth are pretty run down (except the streets immediately bordering John Ball Park).

Fulton Street itself has turned into a real rental haven -- and some of them have been allowed to become run down. That whole area is somewhat fragile and needs some TLC.

What about general safety and walk ability ON Fulton between say between Lane & Lexington? I've checked the crime map and walk score, but am looking for opinions. Thanks.

It's fine. There's a good coffee shop called Bitter End near there, a new Tim Horton's is going in where KFC used to be, a new Subway went in not long ago and a new Ace Hardware is going in where the gas station is closed down next to Ball Park Floral.

Thanks everyone!

Big Tim Horton's fan and having a hardware store within a short walk wouldn't be bad.

On the topic of stores/gas stations, the Admiral down near GVSU on Google Maps says it is closed, will that be reopening or did it close for good?

The Admiral gas station on Fulton is closed forever. Grand Valley State University bought it out and demolished it. It's now a grass lot.

My guess is they will eventually put in a sidewalk on that lot to connect the existing GVSU law school to the business school which is still under construction behind where the gas station used to be.
