just a little need of some advice MY husband and I are looking at new cities to live in. We are currently minutes from flint michigan, which i am sure you all may know isnt the best city now a days. I actually work in the heart of the city at a inner city hospital as a ICU nurse. We have two young children, so we are trying to find a safe community to raise them in. My husband is just about to finish up his degree in health education and then we want to start a new chapter in our life. We are looking for a place that is safe, with good schools, beaches, things to do, and with nice people. I have been looking into places such as grand haven, holland, and grand rapids. I like a small town feel but maybe with newer housing, i wouldnt mind being in the city but it would also be nice to be on the out skirts of it.... any advice?? We are a young couple and are nervous from moving away from our families, but flint just isnt a option to raise our children in. THANK YOU in advance

It's hard to narrow down places based on the information you gave. If you're going to be looking to work in a hospital, they are in Grand Rapids, Wyoming, Zeeland and Holland. Zeeland and Holland would be closer to Lake Michigan, but if you're just looking for a beach for relaxing and where your kids can play, there's a man-made one at Millenium Park just west of Grand Rapids.

If you look at a map and start with Grand Rapids metro, then follow I-196 southwest all the way to South Haven, you could basically consider any town around that corridor. You can try to eliminate some places based on school district research on a Web site like greatschools.net. Offhand, I would check out Rockford, Hudsonville, Zeeland, Holland, Saugatuck/Douglas.

Plan a trip over. Stay a week if you can so you can see all the areas around Grand Rapids during different times of day (and in different weather environments).
