Hello All,

We used to live in the Upper Midwest and was spoiled by having neighbors that were "neighborly". We knew most our neighbors even hung out with most and even planned large get-togethers. We're currently living in Phoenix, AZ and hate it! Yes the heat is one thing but despite our efforts people here just don't want to get to know you. That neighborly atmosphere doesn't exist here. What can the people of Grand Rapids tell me about the neighbor atmosphere in GR?

It depends on the make up of the neighborhood.

Every place we lived, we have been blessed with great neighbors and have had many get togethers. We have lived in Holland (near the central city), Ada (Ada Township and Cascade Township), and now in the north Atlanta area. The last house we were in before moving out of state, the next door neighbor prefers to be themselves, but the rest of the neighborhood is lively and very outgoing.

In our current neighborhood, we get together every Saturday late afternoon or early evening and it goes into the night. Usually there's some kind of beverages being passed around along with samplings of food. Our neighbors are from all over the USA and a couple from overseas. Only one on our block is from Atlanta. We have had fun activities for everyone, including the kids. Our next planned activity will be on the 21st of Sept after school, all the mom's from the 'hood are getting together to surprise the kids with an ice cream social so we all can say good bye to summer, hello to fall. Each household is bringing something specific. I'm sure dinner will be spoiled that evening!
