Hey folks,

I have plans to relocate to Grand Rapids in the next few weeks. I'm a Michigan native and would enjoy getting back to the state, but I'm not all that familiar with the west side of the state - particularly Grand Rapids.

Location and amenities are a big deciding factor as to where I'll be leasing for the coming year. A young, vibrant area that has its fair share of early 20's to early 30's, restaurants, bars, entertainment, and a just a great location overall. I have a vehicle though I certainly do enjoy things to be in walking distance - especially groceries, a bar or two and some entertainment.

Apartment-wise I'm in the market for something that won't break the bank ($650 or below is ideal), is in a safe location and has amenities such as a washer/dryer in the unit, a balcony and good floor space. Obviously giving me a general idea of an area won't dictate if a complex has amenities like these, but if anyone has a better idea of specific apartment complexes that they've heard good things about and want to pass the word on, that'd be great!

I'm in my mid-20's and don't have kids so school districts and the likes don't hold any sway for me. The fact that Grand Rapids is closer to the coast and the beaches than where I originally lived in Michigan is already a plus. I'm accustomed to the weather so that won't be an issue either. Mainly I'm just looking for solid input on where to live in the area and any other recommendations you knowledgeable people might have.

Thanks!

I think Eastown is one place that would meet your needs. For rentals I'd of course check Craigslist, Rentgr.com, and urbanpharm.com, as a few starters. I'd also go back and search through this forum for some topics you want specifics on.

There are a ton of similar topics, like notdeconcentrate suggested.

East Hills, Heritage Hill, downtown, Eastown, Wealthy St areas all fit the bill.
