We will be moving to the Holland / Grand Rapids area soon. We have a son who is a Freshman, so finding a great high school will be our first priority! Can anyone offer an opinion on great high schools in Southwest Grand Rapids or Holland? Thanks!

Those three schools are very good. Excellent in fact! Most West Michigan schools are.

It all depends on what sort of experience you want your child to have. You can use google to search news stories of revent ratings, etc. The Michigan Educational Assessment Program is the state's ranking test for students. Look for "MEAP SCORES" and you'll get some results.

Just because a school has good test scores or is well funded doesn't mean much if your child doesn't feel a part of it. Schools like Holland and West Ottawa will be more reflective of the world the students will live in--highly diversified, many minorities, people of all invome levels, etc.

Some of the large inner city Grand Rapids schools are struggling mightily.

There are a lot of good sc ihools here...I currently attend Zeeland and its very good. The only problem with it is its not very diverse and I am African American. But ive never experienced racism so...Lets see West Ottawa is a good district its the biggest in the area with about 7,000-8,000 students. It covers the two townships just north of Holland( park and Holland Charter). Holland schools are good as well they have around 4,000-5,000 kids. Zeeland has about 5,000-6,000 kids. All of these places are pretty safe, they are quiet and close to the Lake and Downtown. There is mall on Hollands northside but its pretty dead so i would to Grandville for shopping. There are many bike trails and parks all over so good luck!
