Macomb County is way over on the other side of the State. You might want to try the general Michigan section.

I started this a few months ago and I still haven't really found any "good friends" yet. I did get a job, but I'm pretty much working from home. So again, not much interaction w anyone here except my husbands co-workers. Not sure where or how to mt up w anyone. Went to Newcomers Club a few times and they are lovely women, but not many my age, mostly older, and most of them live 30 minutes away. I'm up near Rockford and most of them are near Forest Hills.
i also don't go to church, (crazy big time here) so that is not an option for me.
Oh well.
Thank god I enjoy my husband!

A "newcomers club" sounds like a crapshoot. There has to be a multitude of organizations, political, volunteer, hobby, or something else, geared to any interests you may have. To me, "good friends" suggests "common interests" - especially causes. How about volunteering for a cause you believe in? Many such organizations are happy to get just a few hours of your time here and there. For instance, I am considering Habitat for Humanity, a cause which resonates with me and which uses volunteers in their stores. A volunteer organization can be useful for meeting people and networking in a certain field of interest. If it doesn't work out, just quit.
I would not rely on newcomers clubs, bridge clubs, coffee klatches, gossip sessions, and the like.

Same situation for me ( and my wife ) - moved here a year ago, no kids so interacting with other parents is out, not church people so thats not an option

I love soccer but am too old to play so I became a referee - it's fun, helps the kids, I get to chat to other refs on match day but I forgot that everyone hates refs so at the end of the game I'm left on my own

I have just got myself a camera so thinking of taking some photography classes and being a ref has left me sore so also thinking of some yoga classes. Finding others with the same interest seems a better bet than chatting to random strangers in a ba

So not much help to you apart from letting you know that it's not you and that others find it hard as well

Check out the GR Flickr Group, if you haven't already: Flickr: The Grand Rapids, Michigan Pool

The contributors occasionally get together for meet-ups. Later on this month they're doing a photowalk of Downtown Market: Flickr: Discussing Downtown Market Photowalk - Sat, August 31st 10am - Noon in Grand Rapids, Michigan

My understanding is that they welcome all skill levels.
