I would like to add Spring Lake to the suggestions. Fantastic schools, quaint downtown area, bordered by Spring Lake and the Grand River.

If I ever get the opportunity to move back to Grand Rapids I would without a doubt live in Grand Haven. I think it's such a nice spot, and so relaxing being right by the beach. The problem would definitely be the commute between Grand Haven and Holland. I would not do that. You're moving from New York City to Michigan, life is much easier than life in NYC, things are more calm and you'll be less stressed and have more space. Live closer to your workplace to enjoy Michigan even more. Don't add a long commute if you don't have to.

I don't know much about Holland, but I know my parents love going out there and I'd assume it is just as nice as Grand Haven.. you also have nice beaches. The furthest away from Holland that I'd go is downtown Grand Rapids.

A lot of people here recommend the EGR area, but honestly I prefer Ada. More space just as nice of schools, if not better.

Welcome to Grand Rapids, you'll love it
