Please give me some input about what schools in the Grand Rapids area that would be best for a child with learning/behavior issues? Are there any schools that specialize in autism spectrum disorders? Do you have any suggestions for schools that offer a non-traditional format that might be better suited to a LD child than a traditional classroom format? Feel free to give input on GRPS in general that might be worth considering. Any public schools that stand out above the rest?

I would suggest reaching out to KISD (Kent Intermediate School District) for information. I have been away from GRR for over 3 years and I would say Lincoln Development Center on Crahen Avenue. Hopefully others will chime in.

Can you tell me anything about Jenison Public schools and their autism program there? What about schools in Walker?

Walker is mostly Kenowa Hills schools with, IIRC, small slivers of the city in Grandville, Comstock Park, and maybe Sparta school districts. You've probably already found this, but Special Education services page for the Kent Intermediate School District, which is the umbrella for a lot of districts who want to consolidate resources for those services:

Special Education

Good directory of anyone you'd want to talk to- hopefully reasonably up to date:

Horizons Developmental Remediation Center is near GR. All of the staff members are wonderful. They know special education, development, behavior etc.
