Is there anyone from the Rockford area that knows of a hotel or motel that rents rooms out by the week that isn't a dive? We're moving to Rockford on Sunday but our rental won't be available for several weeks so we need some short term housing right in Rockford so I can get my kids registered for school. We were going to stay at a place called the Colonial Motel but the secretary at the school in Rockford said do not stay there. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

I do not live in Rockford but I'm close by and I'm pretty familiar with the area. Strangely I think the Colonial Motel is the only hotel/motel that is within the Rockford School District. I don't know what kind of shape it's in but it is pretty old. It's been over sixty years since the two lane road it sits on used to be the main highway heading north. Tripadviser lists a bed and breakfast in Rockford called Grandma's which is right in town, I don't know anything about it and they only list one review.

FYI the Plainfield area of Grand Rapids is a quick drive from Rockford and has motels. I found this out by staying at the Colonial 16 years ago, but a lot can change in that time. Don't know why most motels seem to be so crappy, maybe complainers are more apt to...well...complain.

This on Alpine/6 mile I drive past it. Has a restaurant and seems not a bad place, and not a long drive to Rockford.

You think the Swan Inn is also bad? I have been meaning to drive through the Belmont to Rockford area and check firsthand on this curious lack of accommodations which the area seems to have.

I'm not familiar with Swan Inn.
Most of the hotels are concentrated around the airport/28th Street area, or downtown. There's a newer hotel near 5/3 ballpark right off 131, and a hotel near Beltline/96.

There are also a cluster of hotels just off the Alpine-north exit of 96 (Holiday Inn Express, SpringHill Suites, and Hampton Inn) and unless you hit rush hour, it's not too bad to get to Rockford from there.

That's also the solution when bedbugs are found. Upholstered furniture is moved out.
