I'm planning to move to grand rapids with my pregnant girlfriend, I'm a therapist experienced in a skilled nursing facility and home health. I want to move to a good area with good schools and most especially in a good neighborhood, if possible with acreage, what area around grand rapids do you suggest we start searching? Moving out of Chicago since the areas here are not conducive for growing kids anymore.. Thanks..

I recommend the Ada/Cascade area east of Grand Rapids. Great schools and very family friendly communities. I routinely visit family that lives in Ada and they are very happy there. I also invest in real estate in the area and may be able to locate a home for you with the opportunity for immediate equity if you're interested. Please repost if you want more info.

Default thanks..

My problem is I might not be able to relocate right away since we cant leave our jobs here yet because of the medical insurance that we need for my pregnant girlfriend, she wont be due until May of next year.. So were planning to move out most probably late next year. That is if I find a good paying job as a therapist in the Ada/Cascade area, as what you suggested. I'm just actually trying to do research right now so I have an idea which area to look for jobs and houses in case.. I also have to sell my house here in Elmhurst, Illinois if I plan to relocate..

Default good luck - btw how's the real estate market in the western burbs?

We strongly considering moving to the Chicago area from California (we're originally from Michigan and only moved to CA 16 months ago). It looks like it may happen as early as March or April of next year. How is the real estate market in the western/northwestern suburbs of Chicago? If its anything like Michigan, its a very strong buyers market with more houses on the market than buyers to take them.

CHECKOUT forest hills public schools and grandville school district....both are highly rated.one good thing abt michigan is that you don't have to be within the school district area in order to attend...virtually you can attend any scool district in Mi if you live in mi.

thanks for the info.. job market for therapist here in Chicago is very good, lots of job opprtunities with decent pay.. If I had a choice I would have just wanted to work here and reside in Michigan. But I know its not possible and I would rather bring up my kid in the country than in Big cities..

Default jobs in GR

by the way, how bout in Grand Rapids how's the job market for PT's? 1 more question: what area or town in Grand Rapids would you suggest I look for a place to reside since school district doesnt matter where you live? Aside from the Ada/Cascade area that was already suggested...

OHMS,
Please be somewhat cautious regarding the statement that you can live anywhere and still attend any school...we do have school of choice, however as an example; if you live in Jenison and want your children to attend Grandville Schools; Grandville will accept your child if there is room. IF there is no room, then your child will have to attend Jenison Schools. Also if there is room, you would have the burden of transporting your child to the other school district because school districts only privide busing for children that reside within thier boundry lines.
The great thing about the GR area is there are some FABULOUS school systems around town here. I live in Allendale and am most happy. I also lived in Grandville and Jenison; both of which have been wonderful for my kids. Other areas to consider are Byron Center; Kenowa Hills, Rockford and East Grand Rapids. I am a real estate broker so I know the areas rather well.
What kind of therapist are you? Physical or emotional? I can give you a few places that you can check out if you let me know your area of therapy.
Don't hesitate to call if I can help.
Good Luck!
