I am just graduating form college and accepted a Job in Grand Rapids. I am from out of state and won't know anyone.
Where are the best places to look for an apartment for a young professional who enjoys being active and going out on the weekends.

I also have been going back and forth on living alone or trying to find a roommate to meet new people right away.
Any advice, or recommendations on places to meet new people and live?

Thanks!

East Grand Rapids or around Rose Lake seems to be popular and fairly active.

What's the price range you're looking to stay at? That usually helps a lot in recommendations. If you're looking to stay near the action I'd focus my search around the Heritage Hill area immediately east of downtown. Craigslist has hundreds of postings daily and if you stay on it you can find a reasonably priced unit with ok amenities. They go pretty quick.

Outside of that I'd focus my search around the following area(screen shot below is a little confusing, but is referring to the areas between the bold lines):

East of Division
North of Wealthy
South of Michigan,
with East Grand Rapids being on the other end.

When you look on a map this area has emerged as the center of trendiness in GR. If you mainly focus on the areas around Lake Dr you will find all of the amenities the recent college Grads are looking. If you compromise and find something on the west side you will still feel acceptably close to all of the action.

Thank you all for the responses!

My price range tops out at about $1,350.

What mjlo said. If you visit a lot of the small businesses in that area, there are a lot of flyers advertising events and ways to meet people.
