Someone mentioned Muskegon, stay away from Muskegon Heights, that area is not safe at all. Also, I would stay away from Ionia, just not a pleasant town.

You didn't mention what your goals are in the move? That price range will be very difficult to work with. If you are wanting to stay in the GR area, your best bet is to find a realtor to help you out. There are some nice starter homes or condos in the city limits in some nice neighborhoods. You will need a help in determining which neighborhoods though. If you are open to moving outside of GR, I would recommend Grand Haven or Holland area. Housing is slightly less than GR yet still has good jobs.

Good luck!

There are some homes in Sparta (15 miles north) and Clarksville (28 miles east) under $75,000. The miles are to the center of GR. I'm south 27 miles from my office and without getting on 131 it takes me about 35 minutes to get there. Most anything in this price range will be a small 2-3 bedroom 1 bath home. If you are handy and can do a rehab (and get financed for such) you might find something bigger.

Thanks, halll and PBK, for your responses.

Been in Muskegon Heights and will not drive there again. In fact, I would prefer to stay out of that county, though there are parts I'd consider if I could afford them. I'm also familiar with Grand Haven - nice, too pricey for my budget.

My goal in considering a move to the GR area is to enhance my social/cultural life. As I've aged, I've become more of a social person, looking for people who share my top priorities of health, fitness and a faith-based life.

I'm somewhat familiar with the ethnic, religious, business, social and cultural background of GR. I believe I'd fit in and find plenty of people who share my lifestyle.

PropertyByKatie, I'm going to check out your website and will contact you via that medium. If you don't get my message, pm me via this website.

That definitely is a tough price range in our area. The only thing I can add to this is that you could try to time your purchase during the colder months since many purchasers are not as active during the colder months. Perhaps that would help you save a few bucks on your purchase? I have noticed a bit of a slower market in the last month around here. Definitely not many homes receiving multiple offers on them as during the Spring and Summer months.
