Hi!
I'm looking for any and all info on Lake Macatawa that you can offer!

I've heard and read it's somewhat of a "brown" lake, for lack of a better term, but there was a project started years ago to help resolve this. Is this lake swimmable?

We are used to lake life on Higgins, Elk and Torch lake - all of which are clear with sandy bottoms! How does Lake Mac compare?

Thanks in advance!!

The new Education Secretary that everyone loves to hate (Betsy Devos) is spearheading an effort to clean up Lake Mac.

But it's nothing like Elk, Torch or Higgins Lake. I think it gets pretty murky just 20 - 30 feet offshore. A lot of nice homes on it though. And direct access to the Big Lake unlike the other lakes you mentioned.

Thanks for the info, magellan!! Great article. I see Devos has a cozy lake cottage

Is the shore area ok for kids to play in the water? Or is it sort of dirty, seaweed filled, etc water?

Don't know, I don't spend a lot of time there.

My family and I will be coming up this Friday to visit our parents (mine in Holland and hers in Pentwater).

Lake Mac is definitely swimmable. As magellan said, it's not clear like the northern Michigan lakes but Lake Mac has mostly sandy bottoms.

Its totally safe for kids to play in the water. People do all the time. Wakeboarding, jet skiing, skiing and swimming are all activities that people enjoy there. Along with many others.
