Hello, my wife and I are planning to make a life changing move to Grand rapids area. We were wondering how the factory work or manufacturing work is there. If there is a lot of work to find. We are relocating from Georgia where there are no jobs that will pay enough to make a living. Minimum wage is only 7.25 an hour. We both have to work all the time just to make rent. We don't get to see each other as much as we would like to. I manly work in warehouses, but I have done a lot of management in retail also. My wife has only done retail. But she is wonderful with people, in fact that's where she shines. But we have concerns since we have never been to this area. Is it safe? Is there many things to do? Is the opportunity to make a new wonderful life there. I love fishing, and would like to try hunting. My wife is like a fish and if there is water she can get into she will be happy. We are hopefully planning on moving in the fall, since we do have a pet rat and don't want her getting overheated. Please give us your insight of how life is there.

Companies have billboards up now looking for people. Just about every retail store has HELP WANTED signs. I saw a sign today at a place that makes granite counters that said "We will PAY you to learn a valuable trade. Please apply today."

I don't think you'll have any trouble finding jobs. Most manufacturing jobs here start in the $12/hour range, but housing is beginning to get expensive.

You can fish in the city of Grand Rapids and pretty much in any suburb nearby. Unlike Georgia that primarily survives on man-made reservoir lakes, there are lakes, rivers and creeks everywhere here. On every corner almost.

Depends on how big of an apartment you need. Just start googling.
