Toured the western coast...and it was pretty nice during the 3rd week of September, although some of my trip got rained out, but such is life and I didn't expect the weather to be all bright skies going into the trip (I brought my poncho for the hikes).

Your towns of Grand Haven and Traverse City were beautiful and worth a little more investigation. Muskegon seemed rough and run down. Had a blast at the Sleeping Bear Dunes as well as the Silver Lake Dunes and a couple other small beaches that I popped into. The drives were beautifu. throughout and I took plenty of back roads (boy are they stright, but some just randomly turn to dirt).

When I got back to Grand Rapids ahead of schedule I saw a sign for the Meijer sculpture garden and decided to take the exit. It was worth the detour. Everyone in Michigan was nice.

Now given the taxes....is it worth the move? I have to say that one sour spot of the trip was the taste of the water no matter which town I was in. Polluted or just something to get used to? I would have no idea if any of it was well water or town/city water.

I am glad you had a great visit. You went to some real nice spots in the state! Property taxes in the area for an average house in Grand Rapids ( currently at $236,000) is anywhere from $3000-$5000 per year depending on area and school districts within that municipality.

I do not know where you are coming from but I have never heard about our water tasting bad in the city. I do agree well water can have some nasty smells associated with it but I generally have a favorable opinion of our water here. Especially since we are located around one of the largest freshwater systems in the Country.

I would agree that water off of the City of Grand Rapids system (Lake Michigan fed) is some of the best public water I've ever tasted. Some people even say that it's why West Michigan/Grand Rapids craft brewers win so many national awards (urban myth?)
