Our family of four is possibly relocating to East Grand Rapids late summer before school starts. We have 12-year old girl twins going into 7th grade who are very sports-oriented (soccer, basketball, cross country). We've only lived in Chicago so this will be a big adjustment for them. I understand the schools and athletics are excellent. Is the town welcoming to new people? What is the best area to buy a house (gaslight village looks very pretty / convenient location). Girls play club soccer in Chicago on a very competitive team so we're hoping to find similar team in the area. Any thoughts / advice welcome. Thank you so much!

Default East Grand Rapids

I'm so surprised there are no replies to you question! East Grand Rapids is a great place and the schools have excellent ratings. Moving is hard at that age, (I moved between 7th and 8th grade and again between 8th and 9th!) but I'm sure your girls will do just fine. Sports has a way of filling the voids. Blessings to you and your family on the move.

The Greater Grand Rapids Area is overall pretty welcoming to all new people. The sports program in EGR is top notch. Right now the best way to purchase a home is to go see many homes and make an offer on a few homes. We have a low inventory market. Position yourself in a high cash position in your offer also. High EMD's and high down payment Conventional loans. Work with a high energy Realtor who understands strategy and also is well respected by their peers. It is a tough year to purchase a home in all of West Michigan. A School district who is consistently ranked among the highest in the state by many will have a bunch of competition also.

Used to live in Grand Rapids, near north side.... Why do you want East GR, it is a nice area, but very pricey and there are other school districts which have even better sports programs...do lots of research on the sports aspect.
