Fact: An executive order is not a law.

That said, I cannot help but wonder how many people are like my veteran friend James who is also disabled?

James feels trapped in his own body, forced to be under house arrest without any due process, because he cannot wear a mask. He cannot breathe with one on. His face breaks out, making him look like hes got some kind of skin infection. Nasty looking actually. Last time he wore one he nearly passed out after 15 minutes.

Now today he is afraid to go get groceries, as he gets ridiculed and verbally attacked by those who do not know his condition.

He is afraid to go to the VA for heath care as they will force him to wear a mask or refuse to see him.

He is afraid to go to the ER for the same reason - and i may have to take him there soon, as he needs to be seen by someone soon.

Its hard enough for him to get around, let alone have to contend with people who want to put him down, insult him, verbally attack him for not wearing a mask that will not prevent him from getting or giving COV19 to anyone. (he does not have it).

Its getting to the point where he is afraid to even step outside his home.

This is not right.

People like your friend who are so unhealthy that they can't breathe with a mask on should not be going out in public. Period. So he's doing the right thing by being inside so much.

To answer your question: it's probably pretty rare for someone to be unable to wear a mask. It's been proven that masks don't restrict breathing. So if masks are almost making your friend almost pass out, he is probably at higher risk of not surviving covid.

Keep reassuring your friend he is doing the right thing--being fearful might save his life.

As for your last point about masks not preventing the spread of covid, rest assured that numerous recent studies do show they help slow the spread. Great news for James!
Isn't it nice we live in a world where so many people are willing to do a small act--like wearing a mask--to help people like him? We'll get through this together, as a veteran James has no doubt experienced worse things and understands what it means to sacrifice for the greater good of everyone.

Kittena, what I did not tell you is he cannot breathe with one because he left a lung, and part of his spleen and lower intestine in the Gulf. Wearing a mask makes it harder for him. So for that reason we are going to force him to have to stay at home? Not be able to go out for groceries, or stop at the gas station to fill up because they demand he wear a mask.

You mention studies.. Are these the same studies that say the mask will let cov19 virus particles pass right thru it? Are these the same that say most people under the age of 65 have a less than 1 percent fatality rate?

Are these the same studies that say rebreathing your own CO2 back into your lungs is actually harmful?

Sorry, but this is nothing to do with a VIRUS.. which is no different than the flu or any other virus we are exposed to. Each of us will respond to it differently. It may or may not impact the individual severely depending on their own medical situation.

This mask thing is about control of the people. And that is just plain un american.

Have him find a face shield to wear instead:

First, there are multiple different types of fabric and other materials being used to make masks. Surely he can't be 'allergic' to all of them?

Second, the military has been far stricter about facial coverings than the civilian world since the pandemic began. My local military bases have required facial covering when social distance cannot be maintained since March an I live in a state where the civilian government thinks the pandemic is a joke. He needs to take up the VA issue with the VA rather than you using it to try to score some other political point from his service.

Okay, well now you're just parroting garbage that gets shared around facebook instead of actual science, so we can see this isn't actually about your friend James... you just wanted to further politicize a pandemic. Good luck.

He can wear a face shield - that should placate nearly everyone.
