I'm not sure you could use it to prove danger or otherwise (since it's all self-reported data) but it certainly is a neat way to display data.

Slick display features aside the data consistently shows over time certain areas to have higher crime incidences, thus one can infer good areas from bad.

Division Street lol Growing up it was like the kid's right of passage to drive down Division and get the culture shock of their lives.. it's very sad. I heard they've cleaned it up since the 80's & 90's but I'm sure there are still hookers walking it at all hours of the night. I have family members that won't even drive down Division. Like any city there's a ghetto in GR. Places to enjoy.. East Grand Rapids, Forest Hills.. East Town. Stay out the ghetto!

I highly doubt that GR is in the top 100 for any such list.....

I grew up a bit sheltered, and lived out in the cornfields of central Michigan. When I was 19 I moved to Grand Rapids, since back then I thought being in the city was cool. The first time I saw division street my jaw about hit the ground, I had never seen anything like that with the abandoned buildings and hookers. My parents had grown up in Detroit and talked about the things that happened there, but I had never seen that kind of thing firsthand. I guess I was completly shocked at how bad it really was. Your post reminded me of that experience. lol

Agreed! GR does have big city problems, in the area that Junbug talks about, but those areas represent to small a chunk of the city to put the city on any infamous lists.

I'm sorry to hear your part of town is rough. There are certainly rough neighborhoods in GR.

As a whole, the city's crime rates aren't too bad (nowhere near any top 100 lists I'm guessing) and the majority of the city is pretty quiet.
