I'm happy to say that I'm buying a house in Grand Rapids. It has a small backyard, and an even smaller front lawn, which for me is a positive. I wish to learn more about incorporating native plants into a lawn. Does anyone know of any community resources or knowledgeable people that I could contact to get started? I'd prefer someone in the GR area but would be willing to talk with anyone in the West Michigan area.

Drive over to Romence Gardens on Lakeside Dr. (in GR).
They will steer you in the right direction. We had a similar desire with our rain garden in the back yard of our house (which is also small, on an EGR city lot). They did a great job steering us in the right direction
