As for a condo, even in relatively good years, the break even time frame for buying v. renting tends to be about five years, so I'd probably rent if you're only going to be there for two.
Thanks for the advice on condo
I am considering mainly because of the federal tax credit ($8000) for first time home buyer. After some consideration I did decide to hold off on buying my first house since I'm not even sure where I want to live in GR. =)

I think with both you get covered parking.

38 | Downtown Grand Rapids | Apartments | Condominiums | Office | Restaurant | Retail | LEED Certified | Thirty-Eight

They are both quite expensive. Do you think GR is over developing with all the new luxury condos?
I considered River House condo and boardwalk, but now, I am not more inclined to just rent an apartment. Do you happen to know any good place that offer covered parking? If there is an indoor gym that would be perrrfect

If you don't mind me asking, what field do you work in? How did you get this job.. A recruiter, applying online, knew someone who works there?

I work in I.T. as a Network/Telephony Engineer and I am also studying Network Security. I want to get out of this state of GA that I hate so much as soon as I can.
Sorry =( I personally dont know anyone in Grand Rapids nor am I familiar with the companies over there. I wish I know more about network engineering field.

There were a ton more in the pipeline that died. I think there's a decent number now for supply/demand. 38 and Gallery are mostly apartments.

I'd try the Grand Rapids Craigslist.

craigslist: grand rapids classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events

38 is not bad for apartment
a bit pricey but has everything im looking for. Since it is in the heart of downtown, it might fit my lifestyle well
When will the Gallery open? I think the Gallery will be crazy expensive though
Also, since I will be working in the eastern part of the town, about 10 min from downtown, do you think traffic will be an issue in GR if I live downtown? Thanks

No, shouldn't be a problem. There will be some traffic but keep in mind that GR isn't really THAT big of a city. Good luck!
