Hey all ~ I grew up in Grand Rapids and am planning my wedding there, since my parents still live there. I've since moved away though, and am doing a lot of my planning via distance.

I was wondering if anyone could suggestion non traditional wedding reception venues -- we're looking for somewhere we can do an evening reception (8-midnight) with lounge style seating/standing room and maybe some tall tables, for about 150 people. We may be able to cut the guestlist down if we find the perfect place and it's too small.

I'm looking for funky/interesting museums, large restaurants with great atmosphere (that allow us to rent a large room or whole restaurant), art galleries, etc. for rental in January (i.e. no outdoor venues - I don't want to rock ugg boots for my wedding!)

Thanks so much for your help!!!

One of our friends got married out west and held a reception for their GR friends and family that didn't make it to their wedding. Check it out, they have a banquet facility: Noto's Old World Italian Dining

Good luck!

You do St. Ceclia's. It is a music hall and it pretty cool compared to going to a hotel or golf course. There is also Frederick Meijer Gardens which is pretty but a bit expensive. I've also seen ppl doing them at the art musuem or Gerald R. Ford museum.

I second the recommendation for Noto's - their basement wine cellar would be so cool for a wedding reception. It's a series of domed areas all done in exposed brick...very romantic!

Not sure how many people the basement seats, but they also have standard reception rooms.

I'm looking into the BOB downtown, its a collection of restaurants. A while back they took an old warehouse and refurbished it into 4 floors worth of restaurants, the 4th and first floor have night clubs (and the 4th floor is available for rent for a reception) as well as the third floor and they both hold more than 150 people. Go to Gilmore Collection Catering then click on "the bob" and they tell u all about it there
