Hey all,
I've been around this site a bit and it seems that there are some pretty nice and honest people that offer solid advice. So, here's the short version of my story...

I currently attend grad school at CMU (Mt. Pleasant). I'll be doing an internship in GR from May-August this year. It's going to be 40 hours per week so driving from Mt. P 5 days per week is not an option. It's roughly 1 hour 45 minutes one way depending on traffic and time of day. So I need to find a place to rent for 3-4 months. I've only been to the city twice, don't know anybody that lives anywhere near the city, don't want to sublease or live with people I don't know. Also, I'd prefer something that was fully furnished because I currently live with my fiance. She is in grad school as well and will be taking classes at CMU until the end of July. We don't have two of anything and I'm not going to take all our furniture to GR with me!

With that said, does anybody know of apartments/houses/whatever anywhere within a 20 minute drive of the city that offers short -term, fully furnished housing? I've found a few that do but the rent is insane. I'm talking at least $1200/month. My price range can't exceed $700/month.

Right now, I'm leaning toward Extended Stay America in Kentwood. $600/month for a fully furnished studio but I don't know anything about this hotel chain. My other option is Pineridge Apartments in Walker. They offer a furnished studio for $399/month or a 1 bedroom for $500/month. I do know that this place is used by GVSU students though which could be a deal breaker for me. I want nothing to do with student housing. I've been there and done that. And I won't ever do it again!

Anyways, any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help!

Check out a few of the larger apartment complexes in the area. I believe that most of them have furnished apartments. Your problem will be finding one that will do a 3 month lease; you may have to do a month-to-month for a little extra each month.

Old Orchard would be a good place to start. You should also check out rentgr.com and lighthousepms.com. You can search with the keyword "furnished". A cursory search on rentgr found two places for under $600. In all honesty, you shouldn't have any problem finding a bunch of options around that price.

Good luck and once you've found a few places, be sure to ask on here about the neighborhoods.

Extended Stay America hotels are fine. I'm assuming, for that price, you're getting a studio. I've stayed in one of those. It's a single room with a galley kitchen. It's not great, but it would work for a few months and you wouldn't have a roommate or a sub-lease.

Thanks for the responses. I don't care what size the apartment is. As long as it's furnished and under $600 a month. I'll check out rentgr.com and see what comes up.
