I believe we should lower the drinking age to 18. The drinking age of 21 is inconsistent with other laws pertaining to responsibilities that the age of 18 holds.

Such as

-Ability to sign a 6-8 year contract with the military
-Getting bank loans and credit cards
-Being able to live on your own
-Signing leases for apartments
-Paying bills and taxes all on your own
-Being held completely responsible for all of you actions
-Being able to purchase Tobacco products

But after all of these various responsibilities that a 18 year old is deemed old enough to handle, you have to be 21 to drink legally?

What do you think about this?

Its 18 here in the UK and its a real mess. Drink culture is out of control. I think 21 is a much better age, now that I have seen both sides, and I dont think the age limit should be lowered. 18 yr old are really not responsible enough. You dont realize this until you have grown up enough to look back and see.

I've always thought the drinking age was stupid in theory. However, looking at Americans today, it appears that 30 would be a more appropriate age, lolz.

I was allowed to drink at 18--and I'm still here! Never had a drunken car accident. Never went "hog-wild"...
The fact is some folks can handle alcohol, and some can't...no matter the age.
I think since you are considered an "adult" at 18, then drinking should be your prerogative.

thank you sooo much. it seems youve taken up an arguement i brought up in the driving age one.

please dont forget

-being able to join the army and kill someone
-being able to get behind a giant moving, metal machine that could easily endager yours and others lives
-being able to vote

in france the age is 16, but is there more teen drinking deaths? more drinking and driving incidents? no! of course not!!

Even at the 21 age limit, young adults are still getting alcohol. Or at least being exposed to it.
I actually think the age limit should be higher because being addicted to alcohol isn't as bad as being addicted to cigarettes.
You can drive while smoking, you can pay bills and not get hurt, etc;

Drinking is a more serious matter, thats why I think they have it up at 21 and not 18
But I do think it should be higher.

I'm not for lowering the drinking age but I always did kinda find it funny that you could get head blown off in war but couldn't buy a beer legally

No but I think it should be lowered to 19... there are still 19 year olds in high schools if they get left back.

BUT that said, I think that laws against drunk driving should be WAY stronger than they are now. I hear constantly about repeat offenders who have many prior offenses for this, then they kill someone. If you get caught once, you should have your license taken away for a year minimum. If you get caught driving again drunk, taken away for 5 years. Again: 10 years. If you hurt or kill someone while driving drunk - no license forever.

The drunk/impaired driving laws in this country are a JOKE. They need to be way tougher.

Well, if the main concern is only drinking and driving, why don't we all have cars w/breathalysers in them?
