No, as I said, sports - on the court anyway - are a meritocracy. The best players get the best jobs; there are no other subjective factors, nor are there barriers to entry. In the NBA, the jobs that do not require extraordinarily specialized skills and are conceivably available to a wider pool of potential applicants are held overwhelmingly by whites.

I agree there are more Asians and Latinos/Latinas in STEM, not many blacks. I belong to the most underrepresented minority around, so I notice these things. There are plenty of women in STEM these days as well.

This doesn't mean that Google is racist. Maybe there just aren't a lot of black people (proportionately) in the US who are interested in software engineering. Just like maybe not a lot of men are interested in being nurses or daycare workers (not sexist), or not a lot of Asians are interested in playing professional football (also not racist).

As for Asians being over-represented STEM in the US, I think that may be because that's how a lot of Asians were able to get into the US in the first place. It's a lot easier to immigrate to the US if you have highly technical skills or if you're coming here for college education. Ex: Both my parents immigrated from China to get their Ph.D's in the US in mechanical engineering and work here now in STEM.

Despite the best efforts of the Left Wing political machine and it's PC anti-male, white privilege, divide and conquer offensive... they just don't seem to be making enough headway at marginalizing white males into a state of irrelevance. Must be frustrating.

No, but that doesn't mean that there can't be outreach programs to get more blacks and Hispanics into STEM fields.

It would be crazy to assume that Google would hire you just because of the color of your skin. Though, if they really wanted to help bolster their diversity numbers, they could do more to bring interest to those fields into the black/hispanic communities? Send their Google Engineers in for career days, help fund programs designed to generate enthusiasm for math and the sciences!
I assume that they have recognize the great under representation of blacks and Hispanics and understand that it serves their interest to expand the pool of potential hires by encouraging more Americans in general, and blacks and Hispanics in particular, to enter the STEM fields.

Their honesty is refreshing and lets hope that it leads to action, and not angst.

Let us see. Owners of the clubs. Coaches, agents, lawyers, CPAs.......you really think that white men are absent? Not every one ends up like a Magic or a Michael Jordan. What about those guys who bomb out, and are never heard of again?

yes please let people know this.

Bottom line is BET is white owned and the people who determine the fates of most NBA players are mainly white males.

Racial makeup has very little to do with racial attitudes.
A quick trip to Google will tell you that 78% of NBA players are black. Not 90%. Whites are much better at playing basketball than you give them credit for.

And that has next-to-nothing to do with jobs requiring a high degree of academic training. Why has the NBA even entered into this conversation (other than the usual false equivalencies)? The subject is GOOGLE.
