This premise is false. So the argument doesn't really stand.

There are plenty of reasons why working on Thanksgiving makes sense. For example, many factories can't be shut down for one day. Starting them back up takes over a week. Another example is retail stores. Consumers have shown over and over that they want to shop on Thanksgiving. Stores have no choice but to meet the customers' demands.

I don't disagree with you entirely, however, just thought that there are probably quite a few people who would like to eat at Chick-Fil-et on Sunday's but that -so far, has remained closed by the owners request. Wonder if some years down the road, that they too will succumb to customer demands?

Originally it was, that's why two of the now three games always were in Detroit and Dallas. However now the NFL has changed from owning a day of the week, as the Concussion movie trailer says, to one that provides new live content on Sunday, Monday and Thursday nights and has started to take over the Friday and Saturday time slots of their school based development leagues.

It makes money. Also having 3 days with games creates more ad revenue. It's all about the profit.

Not to mention live sports is a huge reason people keep cable. Which of course also makes them money.

That's the beauty of this nation. You can run your business the way you want to. The difference between a department store and a restaurant is that if someone buys their Christmas gifts today, they aren't going to go out and buy them tomorrow. Food on the other hand is required on daily basis.

Where do you live where dawn isn't until 7am? Every farmer I know has been up for hours by then and already worked a full day!

Tow truckers workers aren't an essential. You could be forced to walk somewhere and call someone for a ride. Your car would survive by the side of the road. Happens all the time the rest of the year! How is a gas station or a hotel any different than a tow truck? You do realize that there are people who live in hotels, right?

It's not a small number of people who don't celebrate Thanksgiving. With so many immigrants in this country, it's only a matter of time before those who celebrate are the minority! And your Thanksgiving celebration is probably nothing like mine. Each person celebrates it differently. No one is right or wrong. Just different. Why do you get to dictate that things should close?

Reminds me of my Jewish friends who hate Christmas. Why do they hate Christmas? Because EVERYTHING is closed. It's very rare to find anything open on Christmas. It drives them crazy because there's nothing for them to do except stay home. I can also see this changing over time and people being all up in arms over it.....they'll get over it.
