I've never heard of that tradition and it absolutely IS rude. pinching hurts. I've been pinched all of 3 times in my adult life and each time the pincher regretted it almost immediately.

In my calmest voice with "the look" that only a mother of boys has I informed the offender that I did not appreciate it regardless of the intention.

Yes.

So is trying to rub a pregnant woman's baby belly.

Are you older than 8? Then you shouldn't be pinching, shoving, caressing, or otherwise invading the physical space of unwilling human beings. And if you don't already KNOW that they are willing, they are by definition off limits to your touching.

But once you hit 80, you can get away with doing all that stuff.

I am in my late 50's. When I was in my teens thru my 40's people would pinch each other on St. Patrick's Day and we would all laugh about it. Now, you face a potential lawsuit and loss of job.

What has become of us?

What will we continue to turn into?
Seriously? Outside of the fact that being pinched hurts, I don't want anyone to touch me that I have not given permission to touch and I did not grow up in a home that was non violent when my biological donor was around and pinching was part of those violent actions used.

Is this a joke? St Patrick's Day is not part of our culture. It's an Irish thing. When was the last time we made fun of people for not celebrating Chinese New Year or Diwali?

I have never heard of pinching someone for anything. Not only would I not tolerate someone doing that to me now, I would never have tolerated it when I was young. In my opinion, it is not only battery but also abuse. Some people have no boundaries and it is totally unacceptable.

Never heard that just because they weren't wearing green as an excuse either.
It's something we did as children. Childhood is where it belongs.

Lived in NYC and participated in Irish-American and Irish organizations for decades....never heard about this pinching custom until now.

I've never heard of it, either. The last time I wore green on St Paddie's Day, completely by accident, I got laughed out of the office, lol.

And yes, I think it is
No, if you're 9. Yes if you're older than that.
