Eating insects isn't any worse than ripping flesh and tendons from the bones of a decaying animal.

I don't think anyone does that either - will not in the U.S.

Sure they do. People in the US, me included, often eat beef, pork, lamb, goat, and chicken off the bone.

... there is a huge ick factor involved. I don't care if it looks like a tortilla chip, if it's made from ground crickets, no way. Unless I'm starving to death in a survival situation somewhere, desperate for food, I'll forever have that gag factor with eating bugs.

^^^ here is your answer... I think most people share your views...

While most Americans think eating insects is a bit gross many do not have any problem with the closely related crabs, crayfish and lobsters. Maybe it is just a matter of size.

FWIW - I do not care for the taste of lobster enough to pay the premium for the beasties. I prefer fish.

I have a vague recollection of being in a delicatessen as a child - a rather posh one - and seeing candied grasshoppers and chocolate covered ants. This must be 50 years ago. They were in cans.

Has anyone heard of these? I have to GOOGLE it. It almost seems like a dream...

Eating bugs would gag a maggot.

Catch enough bugs, roll them in breading mix, and deep fry them: https://store.louisianafishfry.com/p...-fish-fry.html

Who knows, they might taste pretty good.

I can remember eating at a restaurant at Santa Monica airport called the Typhoon, it was a fun place to eat and watch the planes come and go. One little area of their menu served insects, crickets being one. I remember ordering a dish of one insect and forget which one but they were tasty. The restaurant is closed, Santa Monica airport is kinda fading away in recent years. I like to adventure into the unknown when it comes to foods.

Insects are high protein and a staple in other parts of the world.
