If you'll all deign to accept a more pop culture example
then I'll offer up the often horrific TV show "Person Of Interest"

Here's a two minute excerpt that hits most of the highpoints.
Look for what the character John Greer tells us.

No it depends on who is committing the crimes and whether its 'sanctioned' by those with access to the security 'cameras'.
If you're talking about low level criminal element, they will most likely be caught, and its a good way to scare the general populace. If you are talking about the high level criminals, maybe depending on how 'connected' they are or whether they are using a 'proxy' to do the deed.

William Colby, Paul Wellstone, Milton William Cooper, David Kelley, Gary Webb, Michael Hastings, Andrew Breitbart, Hunter S Thompson, DC Madam Deborah Palfrey, Senator Nancy Schaefer, Dean Warwick, Phillip Marshall, Tom Clancy, Jeffrey Epstein, xxx?

When our business was victim to a robbery, our cameras/video data was used to apprehend the perpetrator.
He got zero timed served and a court fine. He obviously used his robbery $ to pay the fine and move on to the next business.
Kinda inspires a person to simply commit the offense and know that the D.A ( at last in our town) doesn't want to get involved in court time to uphold the laws. He prefers to only deal in high profile cases that gets him some face time on camera. He so much as said, its a waste of his office's time to prosecute but rather let the folks plea to a lesser offense.

I personally think cameras are as effective in deterring crime as the Protective Restraining orders . Wave that restraining order at the person, I' m sure it will stop that bullet or knife coming at ya....(NOT!)

Can cameras everywhere prevent people from getting away with crimes?

I think some are confused, security cameras can not prevent any crime. Security cameras help to solve crimes, that's all. If a bad person wants to commit a crime they will still do it.

The only areas where security cameras are prevalent are in urban areas, suburban areas do have cameras but nut many and it would only be luck the a camera caught a crime in process. Now in rural areas security cameras are few and far between.

Crime shows are always showing how they solve crimes with the security cameras, but keep in mind that you will never see a crime show where the police failed to solve it even with surveillance cameras. And there are lots of crimes that are never solved.

I've gotten several camera driving citations but it wasn't my vehicle in the picture, nor was I ever in that far away location, nor was it my license plate number inthe pic, which you can't even read in the pic! The state computers apparently send citations automatically without a human checking first. AI can make mistakes.

Also I wonder if we should have live cameras in school classrooms?

It's one thing for law enforcement to track down criminals. But if the DA won't prosecute them or if they get off with a warning then who cares if there are cameras?

Cameras will get you if you are not wearing your coronavirus mask or if you run a red light. That's what the DA's really care about.

Of course we should. Cops wear body cameras so why should the teachers' union object to cameras in the classroom? For the protection of teachers.

The teachers union is very powerful and does not have teaching as its main objective. They fear the cameras in the classrooms because they don't want parents to know how they are indoctrinating children into their socialist agenda instead of teaching English, for example. We can see the results in many burning cities across our country. Big Brother is here, has been here for decades, but it is up to you to decide how to use it and what you will tolerate. Applied technology doesn't have to mean we become closer to CCP, your choice.

I think that live cameras in school classrooms would be far more likely to provide much-needed evidence to some parents that their little darlings aren't quite the little darlings they imagine them to be when they're at school.

Also, I don't believe that teachers are to blame for "many burning cities across our country." Most teachers are doing all they can to provide their students with a basic education. The real problem is what the kids learn either at home or from their peers (or while playing with their i-phones in class when they should be paying attention to their lessons).
