If someone told you of a crime that was committed, but never got caught for it and the guy who did it has since died, what would you do? Not sure of all the details, only the type of crime and city.

Absolutely! Even if the person who did it has since died. I would think that the family of the victim deserves some type of closure.

I agree with Leilani. No family deserves to have to live with not knowing, if it can be helped. There are people who do nothing but cold cases, and they could most likely prove it even though the guy is no longer.

How could anyone not report that kind of knowledge?

I absolutely would. In fact I think people in my REAL life, know me better then to confide breaking the law to me because I will throw them right under the bus before I would let the crime go unsolved AND posibly it appear that I was an accessory after the fact. With murder, no question, no hesitation, the dead need justice, the families of the dead deserve justice.

I sort of thought so too. But honestly, I think the only reason this story was told was to prove a point at how vile this certain family is. I'm not even sure of when it happened, and normally, YES, I would always report a crime. Ok here's a question: is there any way to look up unsolved crimes in the area? I guess I just feel like I need more information before I were to get involved. Does that make sense?

Not if it were that vague.
Reasonably, if I heard from a 2nd source that now dead Uncle Bob killed someone in Denver back in the 1970's...really...what does a law enforcement officer do with that info?

Just call the anonymous crime tips hotline in that area. You can make your report and not have to tell anyone who you are.

Exactly, like I said, I'm not really sure of the details. Maybe when I talk to this person again, I'll ask her if she's ever had the urge to report it since the perptrator is dead anyhow. Basically the story goes something like this, " John ran over a guy and killed him just because he was black." Disgusting, but I can't seem to not think about it and all the implications. If the guy died let's say, 5 years ago, then I'm sure the guy he killed has some living relatives somewhere. Don't you think?

People have a moral obligation to report crime against another human being.

Thats the kind of thing a Cold Case squad would love to have to start.
