It drives me NUTS when i am speaking to someone and they give me a number, say for instance a telephone number and they say "Its 555-3200" except the three two zero zero on the end is said as three two oh oh as if they were letters, know what i mean? But then in school we are taught that it is "2:05 or two oh five". Make any sence. If i were to say its "2:05 or two zero five" it doesnt sound right? What is correct?
The correct word for the number is Zero.....but we know what people mean when they use the letter 'O' instead. Doesn't bother me at all either way and I take credit card numbers over the phone all the time.
When I am telling somebody my number, I do whatever is necessary to make sure they understand it, because it is in MY OWN best interest for the person to understand my number. 'Zero' is pretty hard to misunderstand.
I say each number distinctly ("one-eight", not "eighteen") and make them read it back to me.
Why didn't you put this in one of the three Pet Peeve threads?

I would have said five five five, thirty two hundred and drove you even more crazy. But if the number was 555 - 3215, I would have said five five five, thirty-two, fifteen.
