Edward Kennedy, Senator and Democratic Icon, Dies (Update1) - Bloomberg.com

While some will mourn and some will dance in the street. While some will talk of the good he did and some will scream of his heresy. The one thing everyone will have to admit in America is that he was one of the most influential politicians America every had.

So let me ask two questions of the good people of City Data.

1. What is Senator Kennedy's Legacy to America?

2. Do you believe he did more good politically for the country than bad or vice versa?

R.I.P Senator Kennedy.

For me I now look at extreme wealth and power differently, I don't think we associated wealth and power with humanistic pursuits. we learned that wealth and power doesn't necessarily have to be used for self serving pursuits.

Alfred Nobel
Andrew Carnegie
Heck Bill Gates and Warren Buffet most recently

I'm curious to hear some of the legislation he championed and other such things. Of course he did so much behind the scenes it goes far beyond actual bills\laws etc. Certainly he was able to use his enormous clout to carve off a nice juicy cut for Massachusetts for decades (which is his job, don't take this as an insult).

What legacy? for someone who killed a girl...sorry. Hopefully he is in a better place now.

So many campaign workers, so few bridges.

He had 40 years more than Kopechne did. It's too bad he didn't have the moral fiber to stand up and admit what he did, and take his lumps like a man.

In retrospect I wonder how many thousands of lives he saved through legislation trying to atone for his responsibility in the death of a single person?

What legislation would that be?

I hesitate to condemn him, because I did not know him personally. But from all appearances it seems to me that Ted Kennedy was one of the most self-aggrandizing, dishonest, filthy blow-hards to ever take office.

I would not trust him in my house. I would not trust him around anybody in my family. I would not trust him with my money.

As I already said, I could be wrong. But there is nothing I've seen that leads me to believe that Ted Kennedy was ever anything but a disgusting individual.

I think his legacy will be his work toward Health Reform, but...there will be a dark cloud concerning him and Chappaquittick .
