Yes we do. Answering this will provide many benefits. Including the capacity for future endeavors as well as micro-biology/pharmachuetical development and a host of other matters such as the origin of the moon. Just my .02.

What would you have spent the money on? I find the science stimulating and worth every cent. Beats alot of other options.

If it answers the question of moon habiatiation viability, yes we need to spend it.

Space travel is one of the areas we have a slim, and I mean slim lead on right now. If we cancel spending on our space travel, that'll be one more thing we slip behind the rest of the world on.

If they start bombing the moon, how do we know it's not going to screw up the Earth, we need the moon to survive.

I never said we should cancel space travel, but we don't know what bombing the moon will do to us.

In terms of the ways lunar exploration can be beneficial, which is more imporant? For humanity to advance in general, or for the USA to stay ahead of the rest of the world?

The moon is hit by debris on a monthly basis that is much larger than what we just hit it with. It causes no effect to its orbit.

Its like running a bus into the side of a mountain here on Earth. The bus is destroyed, but the Mountain, and the Earth are just fine.

Personally, I just want to see a base on the moon, I don't care who does it, I just want it for the species.

However, the right wingers seem to bring up money when talking about space travel, so the way to keep them on board, is to get all "patriotic" about the situation. That seems to work.

Huge investment for a very small return. Waste of money.

Returns come in ways not always imagined. Besides, who ever said that it's all about the money anyway.
