Well, you can still play with Play Money on FTP to get your fix.
I wonder what the govt would think of somebody "illegally" gambling online and voluntarily paying taxes on winnings. I don't think they'd have a problem with it, I think they just want their money.
I mean, if somebody walks out of Vegas with more money than they walked in with, we are trusting them to pay their taxes right? How often do you think they actually do?
It's my understanding (this may be apocryphal) that if you win a substatial payoff in Nevada, you have two choices. 1. They will pay by check and report it to the IRS, or 2. They will pay in cash and protect you as far as the front door, and you're on your own in the street.
Personnally, I enjoy a good game of Texas Hold 'em so I miss it.
What's stopping you from playing? I play online regularly, as well as live. Online players made half my Jeep payments for me (and I just play quarter tables...)
If you want to play, play. You're the only one stopping yourself.

Any payout over $599 is reported. That's why you'll see a lot of $599 high hand jackpots in the poker rooms. The Mirage also keeps track of your tournament winnings, and they require your taxpayer ID. I've won well over $600 this year at their tournaments, so it'll be interesting to see if I get anything from them in January. I'm fully expecting that I will.

Why don't I play?
one reason is that I have been under the assumption that when it doesn't cost anything people won't really try to play smart. Especially if its no limit hold'em. I suppose another reason is because people playing online started to learn how to play shortly before it became illegal. When I first started playing it was easy to win if you had knowledge and patience. As time went by the stupid people went broke I guess. Not as much fun when you can't win a hand once in a while.
I suppose I could go to the casino but I guess it's just not that important to me. I've never played poker at the casino.

There are still PLENTY of bad players online, and new ones coming in all the time. Sure, there are bad beats, but you'll win plenty in the long run as long as you're playing smart/solid. BTW, it's not just online that you find bad players - I had a guy call my all-in (As Ks) with 10-4 suited yesterday at Stratosphere. On the flop, I hit the K, he hit the 4. The turn paired the card neither of us hit, leaving him with two outs (5%). Guess what came on the river... Knocked me out of the tournament.

I was saying that you could still play for money online if you wanted to. Payouts can take a while and once in a while the check bounces due to their having to constantly use different payment companies, but it still works. Like I said, just playing quarter tables, I pulled enough out each month to cover my Jeep payment for a couple of years.
